iMEP Mechelen Cover

iMEP continuously aims to meet the needs of our customers, ensuring that healthcare providers have the chance to develop themselves, as reflected in our credo “We encourage you to blossom”.

After receiving many requests, we are happy to announce that the buttonhole technique is now part of our training offering.

Through our already existing virtual classes, we were often asked to teach about this technique. Based on the active interest shown in this topic by former participants, we worked very hard on developing a new training specifically addressing the buttonhole technique. To provide you with the best possible quality, the training - which took a year to design - was supervised by Prof. Jan Tordoir from Maastricht.

At the moment, the training is available in English and Dutch, with courses in French, German, and Spanish available from next year.

What to expect in this course?

Implementing the buttonhole technique in your department requires a good protocol and organizational preparation. During this training, you will learn how to organize implementing this technique effectively. Furthermore, the procedure to create and cannulate buttonholes is an essential aspect of the course and will be addressed together with the possible complications and treatments.

Who is the course intended for?

Dialysis nurses or doctors who want to:

•            Implement the buttonhole technique in their departments

•            Join or establish a vascular access team

•            Refresh their knowledge of, or learn about, the buttonhole technique

Welcome to Buttonhole course!

Why is the course useful and heavily requested?

The buttonhole technique is a very valuable technique, with indications of less cannulation-related complications, less aneurysm development, faster hemostasis, limited scarring, and other benefits. This only applies however when the technique is performed correctly, using a good protocol and well-trained staff.

We adapted this training to different approaches since every team has different goals for using this technique. Thus, this training is relevant for everyone.
