Cooling treatment

Nipro, a leading manufacturer of high-quality glass tubing for the pharmaceutical primary packaging industry, utilizes cooling water to maintain optimal process temperatures in its glass manufacturing process. Traditionally, an oxidizing agent is required in the cooling water to meet treatment regulations.

Nipro PharmaPackaging France has taken a significant step towards sustainability by eliminating chemical treatments. At our plant in Aumale, we have installed a new cooling water treatment system that generates a green oxidant onsite, which is then injected into the cooling water loop. This system is complemented by a UV unit installed in the cooling basin. The green oxidant provides the necessary residual oxidizing effect, while the UV ensures disinfection. The oxidant used, hydrogen peroxide, decomposes into water and oxygen, leaving no harmful residues.

Environmental Benefits

This new system operates without any chemical inputs, thereby significantly reducing CO2 emissions associated with the production and transportation of chemicals. Furthermore, the elimination of plastic containers used for transporting these chemicals contributes to waste reduction. By moving away from chemical treatments, Nipro has significantly reduced our environmental footprint, contributing to cleaner water discharge and supporting local biodiversity.

Enhanced Workplace Safety

The transition to this new system greatly reduces the risk of chemical spills and exposure, creating a safer workplace environment for employees.

Commitment to Greener Manufacturing

This initiative marks the next milestone in Nipro’s ongoing commitment to greener manufacturing processes, emphasizing sustainability and safety in our operations.
