Nipro is committed to advancing the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease around the world. We are building on the work developed by Infraredx, a Nipro company that has 30 years of research on the association between heart attacks and lipid core plaques. With a bold vision pioneering the design, manufacture, and distribution of technologies that addresses the needs of practitioners and improves outcomes for patients with coronary artery disease.

Achieve unparalleled insights with the Dualpro™ IVUS+NIRS catheter and its accompanying Makoto™ Intravascular Imaging System- the only CE Marked and FDA-cleared dual-modality catheter and imaging system indicated for the detection of lipid core plaque (LCP) and the identification of plaque and patients at higher risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE).

Specifications

The Makoto™ Intravascular Imaging System is a dual-modality intravascular imaging system that enables the structural and chemical assessment of coronary arteries and plaques by using integrated Extended Bandwidth IVUS imaging and NIRS technologies to identify LCPs of interest.

Makoto™ utilizes proprietary NIRS analysis and Extended Bandwidth rotational IVUS imaging from a single catheter, helping you to achieve unparalleled insights for the still uncharted territories and roles that LCPs play in heart disease. The system also features a touch screen control interface, wheels for ease of movement, and a workflow suited for the complex catheterization laboratory environment.

View a crisper image of a vessel structure with the Dualpro™ IVUS

Dualpro™ is the only intravascular imaging catheter on the market today that utilizes Extended Bandwidth IVUS technology. By emitting and carefully processing a broad band of frequencies, the Dualpro™ IVUS brings you a best-in-class image resolution without compromising on the depth of field. With a crisper IVUS image of the vessel structure, you can identify the degree of stenosis much more easily, visualize and quantify plaque burden, determine the landing zone for a stent, and assure proper stent deployment.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is IVUS+NIRS?

IVUS (Intravascular Ultrasound) combined with NIRS (Near-Infrared Spectroscopy) is an imaging technology used to visualize and analyze the composition of coronary artery plaques. IVUS provides detailed cross-sectional images of the artery, while NIRS detects lipid core plaques.

What are the key differences in imaging between IVUS+NIRS and OCT?

IVUS+NIRS combines ultrasound for structural imaging and NIRS for compositional analysis, focusing on identifying lipid-rich plaques. OCT provides higher resolution images of the arterial structure but primarily focuses on the microstructural detail rather than compositional analysis.

Which imaging modality is more widely available, IVUS+NIRS or OCT?

Availability can depend on the region and healthcare facility. OCT is widely used in many advanced cardiac centers due to its high resolution and detailed imaging capabilities, while IVUS+NIRS might be more specialized and available in centers focused on detailed plaque characterization.

What are the benefits of intracoronary imaging?

Intracoronary imaging offers several significant benefits:

  • Detailed Visualization: Provides high-resolution images of the coronary arteries, allowing for detailed assessment of plaque and vessel structure.
  • Accurate Diagnosis: Enhances the accuracy of diagnosing coronary artery disease by providing more precise information than traditional angiography alone.
  • Guided Treatment: Assists in guiding interventions such as stent placement, ensuring precise deployment and reducing the risk of complications.
  • Plaque Characterization: Helps in identifying the composition of plaques (e.g., lipid-rich, fibrous), which is crucial for assessing the risk of plaque rupture and subsequent cardiac events.
  • Improved Outcomes: Contributes to better patient outcomes by facilitating targeted treatment strategies and reducing the likelihood of restenosis (re-narrowing of the artery).
